Data Editor Positions Available

The Society is seeking to appoint two Data Editors (junior/senior) to conduct post-acceptance/pre-publication checks to verify/validate the code and data submitted to Harvard Dataverse by authors of articles accepted for publication in the Review of Financial Studies.  The aim of the journals’ code and data sharing policy is to promote the transparency, reproducibility and replicability of research published in the journals. Applicants should be familiar with multiple programming languages, including at least Stata, R, MATLAB, and Python, and be able to assess whether the code and data submitted by the authors could be used by readers to replicate any of the empirical analysis, simulations, or numerical computations contained in their articles. The resulting code and data (or pseudo-data in the event of confidential data used under a sought exemption) following the Data Editorial process will be suitable for upload on the Harvard Dataverse for broader public availability. All material encountered over the course of the Data Editing process, as well as the results of the reproducibility and replication checks must be treated as strictly confidential within the editorial process until the point of public upload. Both posts will have an initial term of 3 years, which will be renewable. The anticipated commitment is 10–15 hours per week. Start date – as soon as possible. Remuneration commensurate with experience/to be advised.

Requirements:
-Post-graduate study (junior), Ph.D. (senior).
-Experience with Stata, R, MATLAB and Python and other programming languages.
-Understanding of scholarly publishing process and Social Science Data Editor’s guide and checklist (https://social-science-data-editors.github.io/guidance/Verification_guidance.html), and ability to ensure that the code and data packets provided by authors conform to this checklist, or, in the case of the junior editor, a willingness to learn and engage with the material uploaded by the authors.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills, good analytic abilities, strong customer service.
-Excellent time management and organizational skills.
-Ability to execute responsibilities with minimal supervision.
-Willingness to take part in editorial team meetings as required.
